Robbery: Man gets jail, rotan

The offence under Section 392/397 of the Penal Code carries a jail term of up to 20 years and whipping, on conviction.
Kota Kinabalu: A 36-year-old jobless was jailed eight years and ordered to get three strokes of the cane for robbing a man.
Sessions Court Judge Elsie Primus meted out the sentence to Rizal Raflee after he changed plea and admitted to the charge against him during his defence.
ADVERTISEMENT The court ordered Rizal to serve the jail sentence from the date of his arrest.
Rizal had robbed one Atiqa Ali by using a machete and made off RM600 and reload coupons worth RM350.
He committed the offence at 7.12pm on Dec 9, 2022 at the counter of the Kedai Runcit A&R Superstore in Jalan Samur, Sipitang.

The prosecution had called seven witnesses during the hearing before Rizal was ordered to enter his defence.
Before the court handing down the sentence, Rizal did not say anything.

Deputy Public Prosecutor DK Afiqah Alya appeared for the prosecution while Rizal was not represented.
