Driver charged with trafficking syabu

Kota Kinabalu: A 24-year-old driver was charged in the Magistrate’s Court here Tuesday with trafficking 1,020.76gm of syabu, last month.
Nazri Santa @ Edd, who was brought before Magistrate Marilyn Kelvin allegedly committed the offence on Aug 26, at 6pm, at a parking lot in Beverly Hills Phase 5, Penampang.
ADVERTISEMENT However, no plea was recorded from Nazri.

The prosecution in applying for a mention date, objected to bail as the charge has no provision for one.
Marilyn fixed Oct 24 for mention and ordered the accused, who was represented by counsel Hairul V. Othman, to be further remanded.

In another case, a Pakistani was fined RM1,000 or one month jail for fighting in public.
Sami Ullah pleaded guilty to committing affray that has disturbed the peace on Sept 4, at 5.30pm in front of Nayab Enterprise shop, Country Heights in Penampang.

The charge under Section 160 of the Penal Code carries a jail term of up to six months or fine of up to RM1,000 or both, on conviction.
Sami, in mitigation, requested a lenient sentence by stating that he needed money to pay for rent.
Earlier, the court was informed by the prosecution that before the incident, Sami went to the location to meet a man, during which a misunderstanding occurred between them, leading to a fight and injuries to both parties.
In another case, eight people were penalised for taking syabu.
Remi Mawadil, Argar Sarudin, Salmadi Aidi, Azwan Kadir, Arifah Manai, Quenene Jarmaani, Tan Shi Yee, Brandon Lee pleaded guilty separately to committing the offence between June 17 and Aug 25.
Remi and Argar were each jailed eight months, Salmadi and Azwan were handed seven months each while Arifah and Quenene were sentenced to six months each.
Tan and Lee were each fined RM2,500 or five months jail.
They were charged under Section 15(1) of the Dangerous Drug Act, which provides for a fine of up to RM5,000 or up to two years jail on conviction.
