Borneo Science Expedition to continue next year
According to Aminuddin, KSB 2024 has successfully achieved its objective in empowering non-formal Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education among students, especially in rural and interior areas in Borneo. 
Kota Kinabalu: The Borneo Science Expedition (KSB), organised by the National Science Centre of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (Mosti), will continue next year, subject to government allocation. 

The matter was informed by Mosti Chief Secretary Dato’ Ts. Dr. Mr. Aminuddin Hassim, when delivering a speech during his visit to SMK Deshon in Sibu, Sarawak which is one of the locations involved in the KSB 2024 program.

According to him, KSB 2024 has successfully achieved its objective in empowering non-formal Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education among students, especially in rural and interior areas in Borneo. 

However, the implementation of the program in the coming years will depend on the budget allocated by the government.

“KSB 2024 has made a big impact in bridging the STEM education gap between urban and rural areas. We hope that this program can continue next year, but it is very dependent on the financial allocation received,” he said.

The KSB 2024 program has received a positive response from students and teachers in the areas involved, with various interesting activities such as science exhibitions, technology workshops, and robotics demonstrations.

He also affirmed the ministry’s commitment in ensuring that STEM education continues to be emphasised, in line with the country’s efforts to produce more talent in the field of science and technology. 

A total of 27,000 visitors consisting of primary and secondary school students have participated in KSB 2024 until 6 September 2024.

KSB 2024 toured ten districts in Sabah starting in Lahad Datu through Kinabatangan and Ranau ending in Kota Kinabalu. 

KSB 2024 will continue its journey to five districts in Sarawak starting in Miri and ending in Kuching. 

This adventure involves more than 20 selected schools and several others as stopover locations with an estimated 35,000 participants benefiting.

Through this program, PSN will implement various interesting interactive activities with the concept of Hands On, Minds On, Hearts On in line with efforts to introduce non-formal science learning to the community.

Among the activities that will be held during the exploration of KSB 2024 are Behind the Scenes sessions from famous scientists, Kinect Sports, Drone Challenge, Science Demonstration, Let’s Xperiment, STEM Challenge, Mini Planetarium, Planet Virtual Reality and many more.

KSB 2024 is jointly organized by PSN, MOSTI in close cooperation with strategic partners consisting of Government and private agencies as well as the program’s main sponsor, Hibiscus Petroleum Berhad. 

The strategic collaboration between the National Science Center and Hibiscus Petroleum Berhad reflects the dedication and commitment of the sector private sector in supporting the government’s initiative to fuel the culture of science, technology, and innovation (STI) among the Malaysian community.

Also present, were Ruziah Shafei, Mosti Deputy Secretary General (Planning & Science Cultivation), Ahli Chikba, Sibu District Education Officer, Abdullah Daud, Mosti Divisional Secretary, STI Culture & Services Division and Marhayani Md Saad, Director General Department of Chemistry Malaysia.
