Ex-research assistant held for alleged firearms, drug possession
Yusoff Rawther claimed the items were planted in his car, his lawyer said.
PETALING JAYA: Former research assistant Yusoff Rawther has been arrested for alleged possession of firearms and drugs.

His lawyer, Rafique Rashid, said Kuala Lumpur police detained Yusoff at about 9.30am last Friday.

"The police reportedly found two pistols and 305gm of drugs believed to be cannabis in his car,"Rafique said in a statement today.

"The investigation is under the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, after the initial remand related to the Firearms Act 1960 was rejected."

Rafique said Yusoff has denied ownership of the pistols and drugs and claimed that they were planted as a trap, and that his urine test for drugs came back negative.

He also said Yusoff told the police the items were planted in his car by individuals who have a personal vendetta against him.

"Yusoff’s family stands firmly in support of him, and hopes that the police will carry out their duty professionally. Yusoff’s remand period ends tomorrow, and further updates will be provided as they come,"he said.
