Beware of psycho maids

Kota Kinabalu: A mother in Malaysia has shared on TikTok her distressing experience of hiring a psycho live-in maid earlier this year.

She said her initial intention was for the maid to assist with chores around the house and care for her pets.

“In the future, she would also help look after my child, as I am a working mom and do not plan to quit my job,” she wrote in TikTok.

She said her family hired the maid through a reputable agency in January 2024, and at first, things appeared to be in order.

“She joined us on January 27. She was given a spacious room, a private bathroom and a fair salary for her duties.

“We ensured she was well-fed with whatever she desired, whether expensive or not, and treated her with respect,” the TikTok user said.

However, what began as a routine domestic arrangement soon became a nightmare.

In one of the first incidents, the woman discovered the maid throwing away her breast milk.

“She claimed she thought it was spoiled,” the mother said on TikTok, adding other more concerning incidents followed.

The mother said the maid’s cleaning practices became negligent, leading to hygiene issues that affected the family’s health, including the baby developing diarrhoea from improperly sterilised bottles.

A more personal betrayal emerged when the woman discovered the maid had been secretly using her belongings, from clothes to jewellery, even creating TikTok videos while dressed in the woman’s wardrobe.

The tension in the household escalated when the mother found evidence of the maid engaging with strangers online, sharing details of the family’s private life, including photographs of their home.

“She used my office access card to make it appear as though the house, clothes and job were hers. She even asked if she could create a YouTube channel and post my baby, likely to make it seem like my child was hers,” she said.

At this point, it was clear that the situation was far beyond what the family had anticipated when they first welcomed the maid into their home.

In a final confrontation, after the family decided to terminate her employment, the maid reacted aggressively.

“She broke free from the agent, took a knife and threatened my whole family and then started pushing the knife in her stomach,” the TikTok user said, adding that no one was physically harmed.

The mother hoped her story will encourage families to be alert when hiring a maid.

The first part of the TikTok post amassed 143,900 views and 3,338 likes while the second part gained 11,600 views and 247 likes.
