TAWAU: A total of 118 individuals involving 106 vehicles were inspected during a three-hour integrated operation by the District Police Headquarters’ Investigation and Enforcement Division on Jalan Lapangan Terbang Tawau, Wednesday.
In the operation, which also involved Sabah Tourism, Arts and Culture Ministry (Motac) and the Road Transport Department (RTD), seven summons notices were issued by the police for various offences.
District police chief ACP Jasmin Hussin said the offences detected included expired vehicle licences, non-compliant registration numbers, failure to wear seatbelts, and dark helmet visors.
RTD issued eight notices in the same operation, while Sabah Motac inspected 37 tour buses carrying tourists.
The operation began at 9am and involved four officers and 13 personnel from the respective departments/agencies.
“The purpose of the operation is to ensure that road users and public transport operators always comply with traffic laws and regulations, thus helping to prevent road accidents,” said Jasmin.
He added that Tawau police are committed to enforcement efforts to remind and raise awareness among drivers to ensure the safety of all road users.
