Kota Kinabalu: Sabahans and Sarawakians should continue to “infect” Malaysians in the peninsula with their cheerfulness as the latter appear “too serious in a few matters”.
Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil said Malaysians in the Bornean states and the way they exercise their “freedom” can be an example to their peninsula counterparts.
ADVERTISEMENT He was apparently referring to utterances by certain politicians on issues deemed sensitive that usually result in multiple police reports being lodged.
“Let our pride as Malaysians not only shine during Independence month but with help from the people, especially the Madani Community, Sabah and Sarawakians can help to apply the Rukun Negara into practice,” he said.
Fahmi was speaking when officiating the 1 House 1 Jalur Gemilang programme at the Kota Kinabalu Police headquarters on Saturday. He hoped the Jalur Gemilang would not be just a decoration in houses, cars or premises during independence month but serve as a reminder for the sacrifices made by our predecessors in liberating and forming Malaysia.
He said the Unity Government has seen the longest reign since 2018 which is 21 months upon taking office in 2022.

“This is the most stable Malaysian politics has been since 2018. Within that short period we can see that progress is on the right track.
“The ringgit fared at 4.28 to the greenback on Friday which is the strongest it has been in the past 21 months.

“Our GDP exceeded 5.9 higher than expected this third quarter and foreign investors are bestowed with renewed confidence which translates to results for the rakyat.
“So is tourism...I understand that in Sabah, internet connectivity at hotspots like Sipadan and Bum Bum Island are still not up to standard but my Ministry is working to expedite the matter,” he said.
He also reminded those in attendance of a lucrative salary hike given they have kept a good disciplinary record.
He also announced an impromptu RM10,000 to the Sabah Police Family Association (Perkep) noting that it was still within budget.
Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Jauteh Dikun, meanwhile, reminded Sabahans to fly the Jalur Gemilang high.
“If it falls, pick it up. If it is worn, replace it with a new one. Let it be our pride as Malaysians as it is not only a flag but represents our identity as a whole,” he said.
