Killing neighbour: Indo charged

TAWAU: An Indonesian man was charged in the Magistrate’s Court Friday, with murdering his neighbour, who was also a fellow countryman.
However, no plea was recorded from Yohanes Kopong Jawan, 31, after the charge was read to him before Magistrate Don Stiwin Malanjum in a Zoom proceeding.
ADVERTISEMENT Yohanes, who nodded in understanding of the charge, is accused of murdering Martin Sili, 33, at a house in Kg Ranggu Cina, Batu 8, Jalan Apas, here between 7.30pm on Aug 31 and 12pm on Sept 1, this year.
The offence under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which carries the death penalty or imprisonment of up to 40 years, and whipping of not less than 12 strokes, if convicted.
Prosecuting Officer ASP Nur Intan Jamrin did not offer bail and requested a new date for mention of the case as the autopsy report has yet to be received.
The court set Oct 16 for the next mention of the case.

Earlier, it was reported that a suspect was arrested less than 24 hours after police received a report from a man at Inanam Police Station, Kota Kinabalu, stating that his brother had been murdered in Kg Ranggu Cina, Tawau.
The victim’s body was found by the police with slash wounds, believed to have been caused by a machete, on the head and body.
