11 Sabahans to represent Malaysia in Soft Tennis
Shamzhusaman said they will be competing in the team events as well as individual singles, men’s doubles and senior 40 above categories.
Kota Kinabalu: Eleven players from Sabah will be representing Malaysia at the ISTF-World Tour International Soft Tennis Championship in Bangkok, Thailand starting from September 17-23.

Malaysia Soft Tennis Association (MSTA) president Dato Shamzhusaman Sulaiman, who made the announcement on Saturday, said they will be competing in the team events as well as individual singles, men’s doubles and senior 40 above categories.

The players on the list are Seima Sakai, Xerxes Wilson Lim Vei, Wee Jian Fang, Jayden Jay Ng, Kovidh Sharma, Dr. Tribhuvan Narayan Sharma, Ayden Ho Ming Xuan, Abraham Chung Jay Feng, Sherbelle Chung Jia Wei, KK Chin and nine-year-old Louis Ho Ming Kang who recently won the Under-12 title at the Malaysian Soft Tennis Tournament in May.

The contingent led by team manager Wee Siau Wei with officials Shirley Gan Chek Chiun and Beverly Koh will leave for Thailand on Tuesday.

Meanwhile,  Shamzhusaman said the national body is very pleased with the eight-member team who recently took part in the 17th World Soft Tennis Championship held in Anseong, South Korea from September 1-11.

“We are happy with the performance of the players in South Korea last week. Our men’s team was ranked eighth out of the 32 teams, while the ladies was ranked 13.”

The Sabahans in the contingent were Jedidiah Kwan Ming Zhe, Ethan Tay Ee Harn, Eloise Voon Yee Qian and Euodia Lai Hung Qing.

He also called on four Sabahans – Jayden Jay Ng, Wee Jian Fang, Michah Joel Lai Chang You who will be competing in the Under-15 category and Jedidiah Kwan Ming Zhe in the Under-18 category to prepare for the 4th World Soft Tennis Junior Championship to be held in Jingshan, Hebei Province, China from November 1-7.

Meanwhile, Sabah Soft Tennis Association (SSTA) head coach KK Chin, who is also the secretary general for South East Asian Soft Tennis Federation (SEASTF), said the tournament in Thailand will be part of Jayden and Wee’s preparation for the World Junior Championship.

He added that he will also be attending SEASTF’s first general meeting in Bangkok to discuss the coming SEA Games soft tennis event to be held in Thailand next year.
