Seagrass is a key contributor to blue carbon - the carbon captured and stored by marine ecosystems. Seagrass absorbs carbon dioxide up to 35 times faster than rainforests, storing it in its roots and sediments, which helps mitigate climate change.

This makes this seagrass initiative a critical part of global climate action.

Beyond carbon capture, seagrass supports marine life such as green turtles and dugongs, enhances water quality by filtering sediments, and protects coastlines by stabilizing the seabed and preventing erosion.
