Kota Kinabalu: The Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC)’s BIGSABAH Sale, which concluded Sunday, exceeded expectations with some 40,000 visitors.
SICC Chief Executive Officer Datuk Rosmawati Lasuki shared that their initial target was 30,000 attendees.
The three-day event, which featured 315 booths, included vendors from Thailand, the Philippines, Indonesia, Brunei and Malaysia.
“We were told that there were over 40,000 visitors throughout the building. We not only met our target but exceeded it.
“Next year, we plan to bring in more vendors from Asean,” she said.
“Our vendors and exhibitors brought incredible energy, and their dedication highlighted Sabah’s unique position in the Asean trade ecosystem.
“We are honoured to host such a dynamic blend of cultures and products, contributing to Sabah’s economy and cultural landscape,” she told Daily Express after the closing ceremony, Sunday.
Following this year’s success, organisers have committed to expanding the 2025 event with a two-floor venue, moving beyond the single-floor and three halls used this year.
“We envision a grander scale for next year’s event to welcome more vendors and enhance Sabah’s profile as a key player in regional trade and cultural exchange.
“Our hosted buyers from Singapore are reaching out further, engaging with partners in Cambodia, Laos and beyond,” she said.
She also noted that next year’s event aims for 40pc international participation among the expected 800 attendees, with strong global connections anticipated to be instrumental in reaching this goal.
“International collaboration will be key to our success. By bringing in diverse participants, we’re cultivating an environment that encourages mutual growth and enriches Sabah’s role in the global economy,” she said.
Many first-time visitors were captivated by Sabah’s charm as a business and leisure destination.
“For many, Sabah has exceeded expectations. They see it as more than just a scenic getaway – it’s a gateway to potential,” Rosmawati said.
The second BIGSABAH Sale concluded on a high note and was officiated by Kota Kinabalu Mayor Datuk Seri Dr Sabin Samitah, who expressed gratitude to all participants for showcasing Sabah as an exceptional destination for international business and trade.
“The success of this second BIGSABAH Sale underscores the growing interest from international markets and reinforces our commitment in positioning Kota Kinabalu as a regional hub for trade and cultural exchange,” Sabin said.
