Prospects bright for Forest City, not Labuan
Wong said the Year of the Snake would have been seen brighter for Labuan if the island was given the same treatment as “Forest City” which has been bestowed with full duty-free status and showered with incentives to spur the economy. - AFP pic
LABUAN: The lunar Year of the Snake that made its entry on Jan 29 is not expected to usher in a new dawn for Labuan.

“The prevailing economic gloom will continue or even worsen,” said Labuan Chinese Chamber of Commerce Chairman Datuk Wong Kii Yii.

He said there is nothing of economic importance on the island’s landscape to inspire cheer.

Wong acknowledged that Dr Zaliha Mustafa has done a better job as Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories) since she was appointed in December 2023 by regularly visiting the island and making efforts to address local concerns.
