Kota Kinabalu: Consumers in Kota Kinabalu and surrounding areas are advised to prepare for potential water disruptions as an emergency partial shutdown is scheduled to take place this Friday (Feb 7), starting at 2pm.
Deputy Chief Minister III cum State Works Minister Datuk Shahelmey Yahya, who issued the advice, said the shutdown is necessary to facilitate urgent repair work on a leak detected at a 1200mm pipe at Pipe T2A, located in front of Skyline SIB, Jalan Penampang.

“The leak was identified at the upstand washout 250mm pipe, suspected to be caused by lateral loading pressure from the washout chamber,” he said.
“The repair work will involve excavating the affected area, locating the precise point of leakage and conducting necessary pipe repairs.
“The entire process is expected to take approximately 12 hours to complete.
“During this period, the Moyog Water Treatment Plant will operate at a reduced capacity, producing only 109 million litres per day (MLD) instead of the usual 187MLD, marking a 41 per cent reduction in treated water production.

“As a result, consumers in Kota Kinabalu, Penampang and Putatan, including areas such as KK City centre, Kepayan, Tg Lipat, Kolombong, Inanam, Luyang, Bukit Padang, Penampang, Kobusak, KDCA, Jalan Penampang Baru, Jalan Pintas, Donggongon, Jalan Panglima Banting/Country Heights Apartments, Jalan Bundusan, Beverly Hills Apartments, Putatan, Kg Ketiau, Petagas and surrounding areas, may experience low water pressure or temporary water supply interruptions,” he said, in a statement, Tuesday.
Shahelmey also said to mitigate the impact of this disruption, Jabatan Air Negeri Sabah (JANS) will mobilise water tankers to supply affected areas.

“The appointed technical team will work round-the-clock to complete the repairs as quickly as possible to minimise inconvenience.
