PETALING JAYA: A Sabah PKR leader has called for the state chapter’s election, slated for April, to be postponed so that its machinery can focus on the upcoming state election.
Sabah PKR vice-chairman Roslan Sapar said this was necessary to prevent any division that might arise as members vie for positions, especially as unity within the party was crucial in facing the state polls.

Roslan, the Kalabakan PKR chief, added that all 25 PKR division chiefs in Sabah had agreed with the proposal to delay the state chapter’s polls.
“This request is in the interest of the party, it is not to oppose the central leadership’s decision. (Division) will directly affect our preparations for the state election,” he said in a statement.
The election for PKR’s central leadership council will be held in May, while the polls for divisions as well as the women’s and youth wings will be held in April.
Sabah must hold its state election by the end of the year. The current state assembly will automatically dissolve by October, after which a state election will need to be held within 60 days.
