Kota Kinabalu: D’Sha Muayfit Tawau clinched the overall title at the Borneo Cup Muaythai Championship held in conjunction with the TYT Cup at Kuching Waterfront from May 1-4.
Their athletes took home 15 gold and five silver medals to be crowned champions ahead of TYT Cup winners Kenyalang Muaythai Club, who also collected 15 golds and five silvers, but D’Sha Muayfit Tawau had the edge as one of their gold medals came from Mohd Arizan Kamaron in the pro fight.
In addition to the overall title, two of their fighters Harith Dazzel (9-year-old) and Mohd Akmal (18-year-old) were awarded best boxers in their respective categories, while coach Sharon Andrea Gerlad was presented with the special award.
Sharon congratulated all the medal winners and said the success was the result of discipline, fighting spirit, and commitment from all parties involved and thanked coaches Rozaimy Ahad and Ranjit Singh Maan for providing motivation and encouragement to the athletes.
“Congratulations to the D’Sha Muayfit fighters who performed brilliantly at the Borneo Cup Championship to capture the overall title.
“It was a very proud achievement from the team and even sweeter, Mohd Arizan Kamaron created history by capturing the Super Pro 51 kg category belt, and Heyrie Denis also won the Super 4 Amateur Champion 54kg title,” she said.
She also gave words of encouragement to those who failed to win medals.
“For those who haven’t achieved victory yet, they must remember that it is part of the process of building a champion.
“Failure is not the end for them at this stage, but a stepping stone to success. A true fighter will never stop trying, because only those who keep fighting will reach the top.”
She expressed her gratitude to Sarawak Muaythai Association and the technical team for their hard work in making the event a success.
She also thanked Faiz Ridwan from the Youth and Sports Department Tawau office, Sabah Muaythai Association especially its president Nazri Razak, State head coach Dhillon Tahing, Sabah Sports Council officer Kartina Dumin, as well as the parents and guardians for their strong support.
