Kota Kinabalu: Sabah Umno and Barisan Nasional (BN) welcomed the decision of top Pakatan Harapan (PH) and BN leaders to strengthen cooperation for the 17th State Election.
Sabah Umno Chief Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin described the decision made during high-level leadership meeting between PH Chairman Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Barisan Nasional Chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi on May 8 to reinforce their cooperation as a mature and sincere step towards building political stability for the State’s future.
“We acknowledge that the political reality today demands maturity and sincerity in creating stability.
“For the sake of Sabah’s future, we choose to work together not just to win the election, but to build a better-governed Sabah,” he said in a statement.
He added that negotiations on this collaboration will be conducted carefully by the state leadership of both BN and PH, particularly on matters such as seat distribution and joint approaches with like-minded parties.
“We respect this process and will ensure that all decisions are finalised in the spirit of consensus, as outlined by the national leadership,” he said.
Bung also stressed that the Sabah BN election machinery will be fully mobilised, from the State level down to grassroots, with full dedication and discipline.
“We will face PRN17 as a united, mature and credible team — with 100pc focus, 100pc discipline and 100pc sincerity.
“We don’t just want to win — we want to win with dignity and with a genuine mandate from the people,” he asserted.
Bung further said Sabah Umno believes true stability can only be achieved when power is exercised with integrity, and politics is carried out with decency and clear objectives that prioritise the State, not personal gain.
“We’ve learned from the past. Today, we are ready to build the future together. For Sabah, for the people — we are united. We are mature. We move forward,” he said.
