SIPITANG: Netizens unleashed their frustration over the Pan Borneo Highway (Sipitang-Beaufort section) that remains unconstructed after eight years, leaving roads in terrible condition and causing vehicle damage.
In a viral social media post, Ramle Dua condemned those responsible, including corrupt officials, demanding they face consequences for the sufferings caused to Sabahans.

His post resonated with hundreds who echoed his anger, amplifying public discontent over the stalled mega project.
Despite repeated warnings from State Works Minister Datuk Shahelmey Yahya, MP Matbali Musah and Assemblyman Datuk Dr Yusof Yacob, who inspected the site in late 2024, little progress has been made as of May 2025.
Ramle pointed out several issues, including unpaved gravel roads left for years without proper surfacing, poor safety measures with inadequate signage leading to accidents, vehicle damage and blown tires and four deadline extensions granted, yet completion remains unlikely.
Contractors previously cited technical and payment issues during a briefing in Sipitang last year. However, Ramle questioned why they accepted the project if they could not handle the risks.
“Ministers, MPs and assemblymen have ordered contractors to at least pave existing roads, but their authority seems powerless against these companies.
“It looks like contractors hold more power than our elected representatives,” he said.
With no clear resolution in sight, frustration mounts among road users who endure daily hazards.
The delayed highway meant to boost connectivity has instead become a symbol of failed promises and bureaucratic inefficiency.
