Sabah committed to preserving ethnic cultural heritage: CM

KOTA MARUDU: The State Government remains committed to preserving the cultural heritage of Sabah’s diverse ethnic communities, said Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor.

He said safeguarding cultural traditions is vital to maintaining Sabah’s identity and passing it down to future generations.

Speaking at the 2025 Sabah Rungus Cultural Festival on Sunday, Hajiji said the State Government would continue supporting ethnic organisations in preserving their respective customs, arts, and heritage.

He described culture not only as a historical treasure but also a development asset that fosters unity and tourism while strengthening identity among youth.

Hajiji also announced that the Government will consider upgrading Matunggong sub-district to a full district, subject to a feasibility study.

He called on the people to continue supporting the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) Government in the upcoming state election to ensure development efforts remain uninterrupted.

Hajiji praised the United Rungus Organisation of Sabah (PRBS) for consistently holding the annual festival as a platform to promote and preserve Rungus culture.
