KOTA KINABALU: The Election Commission (EC) has yet to decide on any postal voting mechanism for Sabah voters residing in the peninsula, said its chairman, Datuk Seri Ramlan Harun, at a press conference here on Thursday.
He said that for now, voters registered in Sabah but living outside the State are required to return home to cast their ballots in the upcoming 17th State Election.
Ramlan said the EC’s existing decision regarding postal voting for Sabah polls remains unchanged, adding that Nomination Day has been fixed for Nov 15 and Polling Day for Nov 29.
He said the Commission had considered all logistical aspects to ensure the voting process would run smoothly without affecting the Malaysian Certificate of Education (SPM) examination which begins on Nov 22.
On the possibility of a parliamentary seat becoming vacant, he said the matter would depend on the Speaker’s decision, adding that a by-election must be held within 60 days if a vacancy is officially declared.
