TAWAU: The Malaysian Army’s participation in the ongoing joint exercises with the United Kingdom Army at Exercise Tiger Gold (ETG) 2025 has captured the attention of Eastern Field Commander Lieutenant General Datuk Mohd Sofi Md Lepi.
The 10-day ETG, taking place from Nov 3 to 14 at the Sungai Tajong Forest Reserve in Tawau, involves the 26th Battalion Royal Malay Regiment (RAMD) representing the 13th Brigade and the Second Battalion of the Royal Gurkha Rifles (RGR) representing the UK Army.
Approximately 400 officers and personnel from the 13th Brigade are participating, alongside two British officers and 32 personnel based in Seria, Brunei Darussalam.
During his visit, Mohd Sofi observed the ETG training at Camp Kukusan, including field discipline inspections during the Counter-Insurgency Warfare exercise.
He was briefed on the ETG’s implementation by Lieutenant Colonel Mohd Azam Abd Aziz, Commanding Officer of the 26th Battalion RAMD, and inspected the basic facilities provided for the 500 participants throughout the exercise.
Accompanying him were Fifth Division Commander Major General Datuk Noorrul Azril Ariffin, 13th Brigade Commander Brigadier General Datuk Jagjit Singh Indar Singh, and British High Commission Defence Adviser Colonel James Green.
The exercise aims to enhance military cooperation between Malaysia and the UK through shared knowledge on jungle operations, counter-insurgency techniques, tactics, and procedures, while further strengthening the long-standing Malaysia-UK defence relationship and identifying new areas of cooperation.
