Tuaran: A man had a tense encounter after mistaking a reticulated python for a rope in his yard near Jalan Penempatan Telipok.
The 50-year-old resident, Ben Hafis, said the incident occurred around 5am when he went to check on his chicken coop after hearing unusual noises.
“While shining my flashlight around the area, I saw something coiled up and thought it was an old rope. But the object suddenly moved, and it turned out to be a reticulated python that became aggressive upon noticing me,” he said.
Fearing for his family’s safety, he immediately contacted the Civil Defence Force (APM) for assistance.
Tuaran District APM Officer Nur Azierah Alang said a team was dispatched to the location after receiving the report at 5.20am.
“Upon arrival, the team found the python hiding among a pile of wooden planks. After a 10-minute operation, the members successfully captured the reptile, which measured about three meters long and weighed 13kg,” she said.
The operation concluded at 6.52am, and the python was later released back into its natural habitat, far from residential areas.
