KOTA KINABALU: Sabah’s Anti-Corruption Commission (SPRM) says public awareness and a strong anti-corruption culture are crucial to complement enforcement efforts.
It’s director, Datuk Mohd Fuad Bee Basrah, noted that while many view SPRM as the last line of defense, social media often spreads sensational accusations, posing challenges to the agency’s work.
He stressed that transparent, well-planned development benefits all citizens, and preventing corruption, abuse of power, and leakages is key.
He clarified that SPRM only investigates cases, while prosecutions fall under other authorities, with judicial outcomes beyond its control. Strengthening public understanding of this distinction helps ensure Sabah remains corruption-aware.
The remarks came during a courtesy visit by the Sabah Anti-Corruption (SAC) NGO, the first of such engagement.
Mohd Fuad welcomed NGO support to bolster SPRM initiatives, while SAC chairman Abidin Mohd Alam highlighted plans to expand anti-corruption programs statewide.
SAC was officially registered with ROS on July 21, 2025, aiming to support government anti-corruption policies and outreach.
