Kota Kinabalu: The State Government has allocated RM1.5 million to women’s non-governmental organisations (NGOs) to implement various programmes under the Sabah Women’s Development Master Plan (PIPWS).
Sabah Women’s Affairs Department (JHEWA) Director Haslina Ismail said the allocation, channelled through the department, signifies more than financial support — it reflects the government’s trust and mandate for women’s NGOs that champion issues affecting women, families and communities.
“Through this allocation, more than 100 programmes have been planned and implemented across Sabah, covering focus areas such as women’s economic empowerment and entrepreneurship, health, mental awareness, and family well-being.
“This also includes unity, the preservation of arts and cultural heritage, gender sensitivity and inclusivity, women’s rights and legal literacy, sports and women, environmental well-being, as well as science and technology,” she said during the Sabah Women’s NGO Empowerment Programme 2025 on Thursday.
The event was graced by the wife of the Head of State, Toh Puan Faridah Tussin, who also presented contributions to several recipients, including single mothers.
Haslina said the programme serves as a key platform to strengthen ties between the government and the people through an active network of women’s NGOs across the state.
“Today’s programme also focuses on enhancing leadership skills, organisational management, programme coordination, and more creative communication approaches to reach the community.
“NGOs not only collaborate with the government, but also act as intermediaries — conveying real issues on the ground and helping facilitate more effective government interventions.
“This is the meaning of collaboration between NGOs and the government — a highly valuable partnership that must continue,” she said.
