Kota Kinabalu: Muhammad Al-Akif Bin Elias from Brunei successfully defended his Champion of Champions title at the Mr Borneo Bodybuilding and Physique Championship held at the Penampang Cultural Hall on Sunday.
A total of 150 athletes took part in the annual regional event organised by Sabah Bodybuilding Association (SBBA).
Joseph Ladi representing PDRM was the winner in the Bodybuilding Men’s 70kg under category and the 70kg above title went to Muhammad Al-Akif Bin Elias (Brunei) while the Men’s Masters 45 years above title was won by Redy Bin Ondui (Sabah).
Lily Nur Izzaty Ahmad (Sabah) emerged champion in the Women’s category followed by Alfrida Hatumena (Labuan) and Ivy K Yon (Sabah) in second and third place respectively.
Alfrida and Lily exchanged their places in the Athletic Physique category with the former taking the top spot and in third place was Cristy Reachel Josip (Sabah).
Mohammad Asraf Hamza (Sabah) was the winner in the Men’s Sport Physique under 170cm category and Affan Affandy Sazali (Sabah) took the 170cm above title.
In the Men’s Body Smart (first timer) category, Wong Sing Hui (Sarawak) took the title followed by Nathan Tan Chun (Sarawak) and Hj Isa Hj Yunus (Brunei), while the top three places in the Men’s Body Smart (model) category went to Md Rizwan Md Yusof (Sabah), Martin Madais (Sabah) and Abdul Rahman Lee (Sabah).
Meanwhile, the Best Poser title for men and women went to Ng Chin Soon (Sabah) and Ivy K Yon (Sabah) respectively.
The championship was officiated by Youth, Sports Development and Creative Economy Ministry’s deputy permanent secretary Adanan @ Adnan Atin.
SBBA president Clarence Runggj was delighted with the record entries this year with representatives from Sabah, Sarawak, Peninsular Malaysia, Brunei Darussalam, Labuan, as well as uniformed teams PDRM and ATM, marking it the highest participation in the event’s history.
He said the championship has also achieved its objectives with the discipline, professionalism, and sportsmanship displayed by the participants, and it further strengthened Sabah’s position as a key hub for bodybuilding in the Borneo region.
Also present at the closing ceremony were event chairman Johny Said, main sponsor Krishnakumar a/l Kalimuthu (owner of Enrich Bodybuilding Club, Kuala Lumpur) and representatives from the Malaysian Bodybuilding Federation (MBBF) and supplement sponsor BS Nutrition.
