A LAWYER known for assisting underprivileged Sabahans hopes to represent Kinabatangan as an independent if he wins the by-election. Goldam Hamid, 40, from Kg Minusoh in Tongod, said he decided to enter the race after assessing the line-up of candidates.
Goldam is challenging Barisan Nasional’s Mohd Kurniawan Naim Moktar and Parti Warisan’s Datuk Saddi Abdul Rahman.
He said his decision to contest was aimed at providing voters with an alternative choice in selecting their representative for Kinabatangan.
He expressed confidence that the people of Kinabatangan are discerning and mature in choosing a representative capable of voicing their concerns in Parliament. Goldam said he was also contesting to champion Sabah’s 40 per cent entitlement.
“The issue of Sabah’s 40 per cent entitlement is among my main agendas. The decision on the 40 per cent is still under appeal and requires a strong and thoughtful voice in Parliament.
“Sabah needs outspoken representatives so that the Federal Government will promptly implement the payment of Sabah’s 40 per cent entitlement,” he said.
