Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun, who is also Karanaan assemblyman, has called for immediate action, including maintenance and improvements to river drainage systems, following flooding in Kg Mohimboyon and Kg Lipantai on Friday night.
He said urgent measures already undertaken include clearing drainage systems, installing new culverts, upgrading water channels, and repairing affected public facilities to reduce the risk of future floods.
“These steps are crucial to ensure the safety of residents, particularly during unpredictable weather conditions,” he said.
During the incident, 19 vehicles trapped by rising waters were rescued by volunteers from the Kundasang Highland Four Wheel Drive Club (KH4WDC), Kilimu Garage (KGR) and Red Army 4X4.
The police also conducted monitoring in both villages to ensure the situation remained under control and residents’ safety was maintained.
Masidi assured that the Karanaan constituency service centre is always ready to monitor flood and landslide affected areas and provide assistance during heavy rainfall.
