LABUAN: The Sabah Ports and Harbour Department (JPDS) collected more than RM40 million in revenue throughout 2025, an increase compared to about RM39 million recorded the previous year.
Deputy Sabah Chief Minister III Datuk Ewon Benedict said JPDS is among the new departments and agencies placed under his Ministry following the realignment of the transport portfolio.
He said JPDS plays a key role as the regulator of water traffic and the developer of public jetties, making it one of the important contributors to the State Government’s revenue.
“JPDS is responsible for regulating water traffic within port limits, jetties, rivers, coastal areas and tidal zones. In addition, the department provides and maintains facilities such as government wharves, public jetties, barter trade jetties and passenger landing terminals,” he said in a statement after a working visit to JPDS in Labuan, Saturday.
During the visit, Ewon was briefed on the roles, current developments and future plans of JPDS throughout Sabah by JPDS Director Maswandie Maimon.
Ewon also expressed his appreciation for the existing initiatives and development plans implemented by JPDS to ensure the delivery of the best possible services to customers and stakeholders.
Meanwhile, under the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP), JPDS is scheduled to implement 23 projects with a total approved allocation of RM4.75 million for 2026.
During the working visit, Ewon who is also the Minister of Industrial Development, Entrepreneurship and Transport and his delegation also visited Labuan-based Pandikar Food, an enterprise producing sambal garing products based on shrimp and fish, run by an entrepreneur from Tuaran, Sabah who has successfully penetrated the Brunei market with the products.
The delegation later visited the QCC Baked outlet in Labuan, an enterprise that started at the SEDCO Complex and previously received assistance under the Sabah Entrepreneur Transformation Programme.
It has since grown into a franchise business with eight outlets in Sabah, two in Labuan and five in Peninsular Malaysia.
