SANDAKAN: Elopura Assemblyman Calvin Chong called for a thorough and transparent investigation on the arrest of a Community Development Officer (CDO) attached to the Elopura Urban Poverty Programme Unit (UPPM) by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) last April.
He said misconduct linked to public assistance schemes strikes at the heart of trust between the Government and vulnerable communities.
The case centres on alleged irregularities involving the Program Rumah Mesra Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ) – a key state initiative designed to provide affordable housing and living improvements for low-income families in Elopura.
It was reported that the CDO was taken into custody as part of MACC’s investigations into potential abuse of power, misappropriation of funds, or manipulation of eligibility processes within the programme.
