Daily Express (Saturday, January 1, 1977) - TAMPARULI, Fri. – When the clock strikes twelve at midnight December 31, 1976, Tamparuli will officially become a Sub-District.

Its office will be housed temporary in a newly built corner shophouse facing the present Berjaya Divisional Office.

Initially, an Assistant District Officer and a number of clerks will be posted to run the office.

The establishment of the new office will certainly help to ease the heavy work load previously handled by staff of the Tuaran District Office who have all been doing a fine job.

There is also a good possibility that the township of Tamparuli will enjoy a new era of boom as a result of the new status it has gained. However, for the gentlemen it will mean a dream comes true.

He is none other than Datuk James P. Ongkili, Sabah deputy Chief Minister and State Assemblyman for Tamparuli, It will be a dream come true for him because while campaigning during the April State Election he had promised the voters of Tamparuli that should the Berjaya Party win the Election one of the first things he would do would be to strife for the upgrading of the township to the status of sub-District.

It had hardly been ten months since the Berjaya victory but the struggle of Datuk James had borne fruit and his promise had been kept.
