Ex-servicemen’s building opens

KINABALU SABAH TIMES - (Thursday, November 9, 1978) - KOTA KINABALU, Wed.— The Yang Dipertua Negeri, Datuk Mohammad Adnan Robert today declared open the Ex-Policemen’s Association Malaysia building at Sinsuran shop complex. The building which was donated by the Sabah Government cost $415,800. 

The Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, Datu Abdul Hamid bin Tun Datu Haji Mustapha and the Chairman of the Ex-Policemen’s Association Malaysia, Sabah Division, Encik Joseph Diego also addressed the officials and members of the Association during the opening ceremony. After the opening ceremony, His Excellency was shown exhibitions on the Police past history put up in conjunction with the occassion. 

Among those present at the opening ceremony were the State Secretary, Datuk Abdul Hamid Egoh and the Indonesian Consul for Sabah and Sarawak, Bapak Budi Lsmardi. 

Earlier in a speech, the Minister for Culture, Youth and Sports Sabah, Datu Abd. Hamid bin Tun Datu Mustapha, expressed the hope that the Ex Policemen’s Association would not only be able to carry out its social and welfare activities but would also be able to effect unity among Ex-Policemen in the State. He advised the Association to intensify efforts in recruiting members so as to make the association strong. 

The Minister earlier congratulated the Association for successfully having its own beautiful building and thanked them for their invitation to attend the opening ceremony. Datu Abd. Hamid bin Datu Mustapha added that it was to show its appreciation to and high regard for the meritorious services of the Police that the State Government decided to donate this building to the Association. The welfare of ex-Policemen and their families will always have the close attention of the State Government, he said. 

Datu Abdul Hamid expressed the hope that the Association would consider venturing into the economic fields and not depend too much on assistance from the Government.
