SARAWAK’S Assistant Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Datuk Sebastian Ting is all-out supportive of Shell’s plan to set up a new office in Miri, believing that this would bring economic benefits.
He said according to a source, Shell is looking at establish1ng a new office that can accommodate at least 1,000 employees, some of whom are said to be those on transfer from other regional offices.
Ting, who is Piasau Assemblyman, also believed that the new Shell office would result in the expansion of many social, cultural, entertainment, sports as well as food and beverage facilities to accommodate the needs, demands and lifestyles of the international community.
Closing Upstream Office at Menara Shell, Kuala Lumpur is justifiable but closing Plaza Shell in Kota Kinabalu and opening up a new Upstream Office in Miri is not fair for Sabah!

Mark My Words, on why Shell is closing their Upstream Offices in Menara Shell, KL; Plaza Shell, KK and Corporate Office, Lutong:
1. Nostalgically, Shell started Malaysia’s O&G industry in Miri, in 1910.
2. Shell is turning to green power energy and since Sarawak has surplus power supply and the cheapest in Malaysia, hence Shell will develop the world’s first hydrogen green energy plant in Bintulu!
3. Setting up a new office in Miri town, is to help Sarawak government to spur back Miri, which already have oversupply houses and residents

4. Downstream energy activities do not come under the purview Petronas PDA74 PSC terms and condition, hence Petronas has no say!
Sabah keeping losing investment and fringe benefits from upstream O&G, even though Shell Deepwater fields Gumusut and Malikai located in Sabah waters combined produces about 200k to 250k barrels of oil per day?
Please wake up my State Government of Sabah!
