Motor launch master fined

SANDAKAN, Tuesday.- Voo Pit Chong, master of a motor launch, was fined $100 last week in the Sandakan Magistrate’s Court by Mr. J. P. C. Burbrook for carrying 26 passengers on his launch, which was not a “passenger ship” within the meaning of the Merchant Shipping Ordinance No 11 of 1960.

In the same Court, Mr Louis Chee convicted the following:-

Abu Alias Abdul Gani bin Amil was fined $250 for theft. It was alleged that the accused stole $160 in cash from a motor launch. The Police reported that the money had been fully recovered. Nasilin bin Again was fined $150 for cheating Julsia Binte Amid by fraudulently inducing her to deliver to him a gold ring valued at $75.

 

Polls: Practice run in Beaufort

BEAUFORT. – Beaufort is already busy preparing for the forthcoming Election.

On Saturday the District Officer, Mr E. P. Dallimore, who is also Returning Officer held a training course for Presiding Officers at Elections.

A second course for other Election personnel will be held on 20th October at the Kung Ming School No 1. Beaufort.

A complete mock polling station will be set up and there will be a practice run through of voting. Members of political parties will be invited to take part.

Notices of election are displayed in all the nine wards of the Beaufort District Council Authority:- Beaufort East, Beaufort West, Beaufort South, Kota Klias, Padas Damit, Weston, Membakut, Pimping and Membakut North.

Jesselton Airport aircraft movements

JESSELTON, Tuesday. – The Jesselton airport once again topped the list last month with the highest number of aircraft movements, and passengers handled, according to the statistics issued by the Director of Civil Aviation today.

There were 466 aircraft movements and 4,130 passengers handled during September.

The following are the details:

Bario (S) – 12 Aircraft Movements; 28 Passengers Handled (including transit); 2.372 Mail & Freight (tonnes).

Keningau (NB) – 52; 137; 1.179.
