IN 1991, the Malaysian government under Dr Mahathir Mohammad, introduced a Far sighted 20 years vision that is Vision 2020. Now, we have passed the year of 2020, much have been debated, whether we have achieved it or not, Mahathir, knows the answer very well.

Our sixth PM, Najib Tun Razak, proposed  a new Vision, which he called TN2050, or Transformasi Nasional 2050 (TN50), is an initiative of national development that spans 30 years, from 2020 to 2050.

This new vision was short-lived, when Najib BN government was overthrown by PH in 2018.

Then, the PH government, came with a new vision of Shared Prosperity 2030, a government blueprint released in 2020 for the period 2021 to 2030 to increase the incomes of all ethnic groups, particularly the Bumiputera comprising B40 (lower income group), hardcore poor,  economically poor, those in economic transition, Orang Asli, Sabah and Sarawak bumiputeras, the disabled, youths, women, children and senior citizens.

Now, we have a new tagline for Malaysia. May not be a vision but a back -to-basics concept, Keluarga Malaysia Vision.

Khairy Jamaluddin as Youth and Sports Minister in 2018 went all over the country and conducted town Hall sessions to talk to the young generation about the TN2050 vision.

He, actually was put incharge by the then PM Najib to lead the ‘TN50 Discussion’, involvement series and activities discourse. It was  a bottom-up approach.

Well, a vision is a vision, at least a guide for us on where we want to go and how we want the future to be for our children.

Apart from VSP2030, I think we should revisit back on the feedback gathered from the people of Malaysia, when KJ made a roadshow all over the country in 2018. There must be many good and fresh ideas for Malaysia in next 30 years to come.

Yes, under VSP2030, we want the nation’s prosperity to be shared equally and justly among all Malaysians, but we still  need an even stronger Vision.

With the new normal, Malaysia really needs to look foward into the future.

A family needs a good house to stay, what more a big family like “keluarga Malaysia” that it’s popullation will grow to 40 million in 2050.  A future-proof “Rumah Malaysia”.

Happy Malaysia Day.

Sabah Maju Jaya.
