Yayasan Sabah formed

1970: The Sabah Foundation (Yayasan Sabah) was formed whose goals, among other things, was to afford ample facilities for improvement of education among the needy youth of Sabah and infuse a Malaysian consciousness.

A non-political and non-profit corporation, it was mooted by Chief Minister Tun Datu Mustapha on Nov. 5, 1965, at Mesapor in Sipitang, and established in 1966 by an enactment in the State Assembly. At that time Mustapha was appointed its Chairman for life unless he resigns.

Funds for its management would come from the public, Federal and State Government grants and income from timber concessions provided by the State Government.

It is to be managed by a Board of Trustees comprising the Chairman and six members. The Chairman and one of the members are appointed by the State Government, while one member by the Education Minister and four others appointed from members of the public. The Executive function is carried out by a Director.
