THE MICCI Annual Luncheon Tuesday climaxed in the launching of ‘Kota Kinabalu City Hall Investors’ Guidebook by Datuk Dr Seri Panglima Joachim Gunsalam.

Actually, the fact that MICCI Sabah branch deputy Chairman Datuk Susan Chang who also chairs City Hall’s ‘Love Vibrant KK’ project has directly contributed to its production.

Business people know the value of investment, while economists are unanimous that local and foreign investments are key to a nation’s economic growth, technology, knowledge transfer and even market access beyond.

‘Love Vibrant KK’ underscores a tacit understanding that  every level of investment is necessary for boosting employment, reduce inflation, raise food production etc to improve the economic well being of common folks, given that Covid had decimated many of its once thriving business outfits.

MICCI no doubt chipped in what investment it knows best in this joint intervention with City Hall. At City Hall’s request, Datuk Susan Chang agreed to chair the Love Vibrant KK Committee – one of the seven components of Love KK Network programme launched by Mayor Nooliza in December 2021. “One of the main objectives of ‘Love Vibrant KK’ initiative is to assist investors in proesses such as licences, permits and approval applications,” Datuk Susan noted. Recognising its value, this core network between Lifred Wong, deputy Director General (Finance) and Abby Mae Joe, Director of Valuation, plus inputs from various City Hall departments, worked hard to complete the Guidebook.

Business-friendly Guide to investors

“It serves as a guide to investors on the necessary steps in applying and registering their business in the city,” Datuk Susan said.

“To have a business-friendly and conducive environment, investors need be able to look at the initial steps,” she added. Since its inception, the Love Vibrant KK project had staged the EU funded international GCoM Workshop on Climate and Energy and an incredible visit by Polish Miss World Karolina Bielawska in a Charity Gala Dinner that raised RM156,000. Formed at the height of the pandemic, Datuk Chang explains: “One of the main objectives of the Love Vibrant KK initiative is the assist investors in processes such as licences, permits and approval applications.”   As a post Covid effort, it focuses on revitalising economic activities in KK, promote and open up more business opportunities, boost more job opportunities, services, financial support for business, advance human capital, cultural and entertainment events etc.
