TODAY marks the first day of a new year and would be the best time to prepare and create spaces of harmony so that we enjoy the influence throughout 2023.

Our home and workplace are two significant places that can stimulate our peace and prosperity because they are viewed as energy centres.

When both these spaces are in equilibrium and are charged with subtle positive energies, the occupants are sure to enjoy peace, and better health, remain cheerful and attain success without difficulty.

Creating the right energy balance can be effortless, but maintaining this balance every day throughout the year can be challenging because dwellers may need to pay more attention to the upkeep of the space after some time.

Just like how we take our showers, clean ourselves daily, and wear fresh clothes, the space we occupy permanently or temporarily also requires the same treatment.

Why? This ensures that clean energies vibrate by both bodies and are in sync to experience goodwill and joy.

So how do we know whether our space is synchronised or not?

Falling sick frequently, having interrupted sleep and negative emotions, conflict, poor business, drop in customers, and low performances indicate that the enclosure you are occupying requires serious attention.

Although positive and negative energies will always exist, we must limit harmful forces by warding them off regularly and restoring balance daily.

Top priority should be given to cleaning our home and work area daily. Start sweeping and mopping the floor to free it from dust and dirt.

Where necessary, wash the house, particularly the porch, the most exposed area on any property.

Wipe doorknobs and windows and vacuum the property to keep it free from grime and cobwebs because these attract destructive energy into the property.

Next, laundry should be cleared; keep it from piling up or even be kept in the bedroom where you sleep.

Cooking utensils should not be kept unwashed overnight.

Clutter, which stagnates energy flow and creates dullness, must be cleared. The house should be reorganised to allow an uninterrupted airflow and attract early morning sunlight into the interior.

Sun energy can remove all bacteria in the air, improve mood, and energise the environment. Smudging of sage leaves is encouraged at least once a week to flush out unseen entities.

Light incense in the morning and evening to ground the new energy.

An ancient method, which is result-oriented, is the sprinkling of water mixed with turmeric powder at the entrance and corners of the house at sunset. Turmeric has the ingredient to remove grime and restore the mood. This helps to ward off unclean spirits.

Placing salt in the four corners of the bedroom or house for a week before disposing of it is encouraged because it gives additional protection to the environment. Salt can neutralise depressed moods.

The burning of scented candles in the room and living removes stagnant energy, while the natural fragrance of fresh flowers can expel bad air and brighten the living room. Chanting and playing devotional songs and hymns enhance the space further. The sound from the singing bowl, bells and drums can also create a tranquil environment.

For your office space, rearrange the files, documents and books in an orderly manner because such activity can motivate you to work efficiently.

Allow natural light into your work area if you sit close to the window because this will remove fatigue.

Another powerful medium of light and energy is crystals which can amplify, re-energise and rebalance any enclosure.

Displaying crystals like black onyx, citrine, and black tourmaline can guard your workspace from dark forces. Keep rose quartz on your table to promote calmness.

Place quotes, affirmations and images on your desk or wall to motivate you and give you strength and hope to handle difficult situations positively.

Some suggested quotes are: “I can do it”, “Today is my day”, “I’m the best”, “God is always with me”, and “I will survive”.

To provide you with confidence, stability and grounding, hang an image of Mt Everest on the wall behind you.

Warm or mood lighting is good for the workplace because they promote calmness and removes stress.

If you can choose the colour of the walls, avoid black, grey, blue and dark yellow. Go for pastel colours like beige and off-white. Try to adopt as many of the Vasthu Sastra tips provided here, and you can be assured of balance in your life and workplace and a prosperous fresh year.
