KENINGAU: Thanks to her perseverance, Hervernie Kamijan is able to earn up to RM50,000 per month through her undertaker business.

The 53-year-old entrepreneur said she had been venturing into the business since 19 years ago.

Her business now includes three hearses, a showroom and a coffin making workshop, in Kampung Bakiau, here.

The mother of four is currently helped by four workers to run her daily operation.

She also said she received orders from abroad for her products, such as from countries like Indonesia, Brunei Darussalam, the Netherlands and Pakistan.

“The secret behind the success is simple – do not give up easily. Most importantly, you must always enhance your business knowledge, especially in marketing and accounting,” she said when she was visited by Sabah AIM Director Jahinin Siman, here, recently.

“I, myself, am still learning because such knowledge is used to ensure the business operation sustains and expands.

“It was not easy but I continue on, especially after the death of my husband in 2017 as he was the one who managed the company since the beginning.”

Recalling her initial experience, Hervernie said it began in 2013 when her uncle suggested to her husband to try this type of business.

“My late husband and I were still working as clerks in a private firm…but we agreed to give it a try.

“We only sold three coffins during the first three years – the profits were small as we lacked of business knowledge… thankfully, I still had my day job.

“Our sales and operation witnessed a significant change once we enhanced our knowledge.

“Orders were flowing consistently and in 2010, we joined AIM with an initial loan of RM3,000,” she said.

Her business operations ran smoothly until she was able to own assets while at the same time, she increased her loan.

“We should always be progressive so that our businesses are not stagnant as the challenges will keep on changing and increasing.”

She also expressed hope to be the main supplier of coffin products for all undertakers in Sabah.
