I REFER to your report “Expired Parking Coupon will be Renewed until June 30,” for Kota Kinabalu city.
Why should parking coupon bought with money be expired? Did the Ringgit Malaysia I used to buy the coupon carry an expiry date? By common sense, only a used or damaged coupon has no more value.
Let me remind DBKK, there is NO expiry date written on the coupon. All it says at the back is “Displaying Used Coupon(s) is an Offence.”
Do not assume the coupons are the same as those issued by supermarkets and other business, they clearly print an expiry date because they offer discounts or are completely free, hence cannot be used forever.
In contrast, a paid coupon increased in value if paid much earlier. At statutory interest rate of 5% per annum, the value of the RM1.05 coupon I bought four years ago is now RM1.27.
So instead of thanks that I had to use a One dollar and 27 cents coupon for a 55 cents an hour parking lot near the state archive building, I was issued a summons.

It is grossly profiteering just because you are protected by so-called government by-laws and whatever other Enactments to create a city.
For the sake of 55 cents which I paid with a coupon valued RM1.27, if you want to bring me to court for another RM50, go ahead.
Your can waste your workers time and mine with a lawyers fee of RM5k to 20k but I will challenge it.
I urge all other motorist with unused coupon to demand refunds from DBKK including any summons you may have paid or take a class action suit against DBKK for excessive profiteering.
DBKK should tell all motorist to use up all coupons purchased, if really sincere about “reducing the burdens of users”
