TAWAU: The prepaid meter concept, which was first implemented in Kampung Flores, Sandakan at the end of last year as a pilot project to curb electricity theft in squatter colonies, will be expanded to the whole of Sabah this year.

Kuala Lumpur: The country has lost as much as RM3.4 billion, from 2018 to last year, due to the theft of electricity supplies for cryptocurrency (bitcoin) mining, said Deputy Energy Transition and Water Transformation Minister Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir.

SANDAKAN: The Energy Commission of Sabah (Ecos) and Sabah Electricity Sdn. Bhd. (SESB) recently raided 15 premises in Kota Kinabalu, Kota Belud, Tuaran and Sandakan on suspicion of tampering with SESB metres and illegal electrical connections that resulted in an estimated loss of RM3 million for the power company, said an official.

Kota Kinabalu: The people in this State regard the cooperation between Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB) and the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) in combating electricity theft or “meter tampering” as a necessary step towards implementing decisive actions to curb such activities.
