KUALA PENYU: The authorities have been urged to take firm action against the owners of buffaloes roaming on the roads here.

A resident, Henry Ongging, said the owners should be warned and fined.

Henry claimed that the buffaloes often roam around Kampung Bundu, Kampung Melampai, Kampung Menunggang and the surrounding villages.

“This poses a significant safety threat to small vehicle users, including motorcycles, especially at night,” he said.

Residents, he alleged, are also worried because the buffaloes often damage their crops, including their rice fields.

Sukian Kim Lin, a rubber tapper, said he had reported the buffaloes’ damage to his crops to the district office and the police.

“When the buffaloes enter my yard and farm, they damage my crops, such as banana trees, rambutan trees, longan trees and others.”

He claimed that the buffaloes are owned by a cooperative and believed they should compensate for the damages. He hopes the owners will confine their livestock and keep them from roaming freely.
