Two archers make national team
Kota Kinabalu: Two Sabah Para archers will represent Malaysia in the s’-Hertogenbosch 2019 World Para Archery Championship + PG QT Para World Ranking to be held in Netherlands next month (June).

Sabah State Association of Sports and Recreation for the Disabled (Pestron) President Tan Wha Koon announced on Friday that the two who made the cut in the eight-member national team are Ramdi B. Rahimin and Charley Jikulis after they excelled at the four-day selection trial held at the Paralympic Training Centre for Excellence, Kg. Pandan, Kuala Lumpur late last month.

“The boys did well in the trial with Ramdi, who has been training with the national team coming second in the compound men category while Charley Jikulis, trained locally by Paul Leong finished third in the recurve men category,” he said.

He also disclosed that the team with all eight archers arrived here on Wednesday for a nine-day centralised training at the Likas Sukma Archery range.

Tan who paid a visit to the team on Thursday said their programme will include a mini tournament with Sukma Perak 2018 gold medallist, Eugenius Lo and others as well as some of the State upcoming archers before they depart for the World Championship.

Meanwhile, the other members of the national team are Morogen A/L Komoran, Wiro Julin in compound men’s team and Jennyla Anak Kueh in the women’s.

The recurve men’s team are Suresh Selvatamby, Ahmad Jaffri Jamaluddun while Nor Sa’adah Abdul Wahab is the only compound women archer in the team.

The coach for compound is Tan Peng Loon and Marzuki Zakaria is the recurve coach.
