Kota Kinabalu: The 34th SGCC Amateur Open Championship 2024 is set to tee off at 8am today (Friday) at the Sabah Golf & Country Club.
The three-day tournament making a comeback after a two-year hiatus has attracted some 160 participants.
Event director Ng Loong Fah, who is also club captain, said the long wait for the tournament is finally over.
“The SGCC Open is finally here after more than two years and we are very proud to be the host of this highly anticipated tournament.
“We have confirmation of more than 160 players with more than 130 men and 24 ladies coming from Sabah, Sarawak, the Peninsula and Brunei.
“Nabila Aliffuddin will be here to defend her ladies title while the men’s category will feature the likes of seasoned players Alexander Lau, Lee Ka Tung and Chua Poh Guan,” he said on Thursday.
According to him, there will be sure-to-win prizes on day and two for all Par 3 with the grand prizes totalling RM40,000 in addition to RM50,000 for hole-in-one winners sponsored by a senior member of the club.
He also said there will be a Presidential and Captain Invitational tournament on the final day to be participated by guest of honour, past SGCC Presidents, past SGCC Captains along with invitees and sponsors.
He thanked all the sponsors for placing advertisements in the souvenir programme that had totalled more than RM25,000.
Meanwhile, the closing and presentation ceremony is scheduled at 1.30pm on Sunday at the club’s albatross hall.
