Jail plus cane for terrorism suspect
Kota Kinabalu: A 19-year-old Indonesian suspected to be involved in terrorism activity was jailed four months and ordered given a stroke of the cane for entering the State illegally.

Mohd Alif Suhari pleaded guilty before Sessions Court Judge Azreena Aziz to entering the State without any valid document. He was found not having any document at 10am on May 27 at the Kota Kinabalu Central Lockup.

The offence under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/1963 provides a jail term of up to five years or a fine of up to RM10,000 and whipping, on conviction.

In asking for a light sentence, Mohd Alif said he was staying in the State since eight months ago and working as a labourer at an oil palm plantation.

After completing his jail sentence, Mohd Alif was ordered referred to the Immigration Department.Deputy Public Prosecutor Nureen Natasha Mohd Raffie appeared for the prosecution.

In another case, a local man claimed trial to taking syabu for the fourth time.

Muhamad Fadly Shah is accused of taking the drug at 12.30pm on May 12 this year after his urine tested positive for the drug at the police station here.

The court set July 29 for case management and Oct 3 for trial. No bail was offered to Muhamad Fadly pending the date. Muhamad Fadly has three previous convictions for taking drug.
