Holding Kamaatan-Raya ‘do’ very significant, says Shafie
KOTA KINABALU: Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal said the organising of Tadau Kaamatan cum Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration by the Kadazan Dusun Murut Muslim SeMalaysia Association (PKDMMS) was very significant in a multi-racial and multi-religious Sabah.

He said such celebration is a good approach to promote the State’s diverse cultures and harmonious atmosphere to visitors.

“It is a unique approach by the association that can serve as a good example for others because the objective of the programme is to create and strengthen the relations between various religions among the Momogun community.

“The Tadau Kaamatan celebration can also introduce the culture of Momogun Muslims in accordance with the Muslim norms.

“Such programme will lift the value and spirit of harmony,” he said in his speech when officiating the event at the City Mosque, in Likas, Sunday.

Shafie’s speech was delivered by State Law and Native Affairs Minister Datuk Aidi Moktar.

According to Shafie, the harmony messages highlighted in the programme could inspire the people to further strengthen camaraderie and unity.

He said the Government would always support programmes that have an impact on the people’s development.

Meanwhile, Aidi contributed RM10,000 from his Ministry to the association in  support of the programme.

The Tadau Kaamatan cum Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration has been organised in 15 districts in Sabah such as Sook, Matunggong, Kiulu, Ranau, Keningau, Trus Madi, Papar, Tamparuli, Kota Marudu, Tuaran, Tenom, Kemabong and Kuala Penyu, and in two districts in Selangor, namely Sabak Bernam and Klang.

Various activities were held during the programme such as Sulap (hut) replica competition, children ethnic fashion competition, parade competition and colouring contest for children and adult.

Also present at the event were PKDMMS President Nicholas Sylvester, Sabah Mufti Datuk Ustaz Bungsu @ Aziz Jaafar, Sabah Islamic Religious Affairs Department (Jheains) Director Ustaz Saifulzaman @ Setibin Sangul and Momogun Muslims.
