PAPAR: Police here will continue to carry out various programmes that will contribute in reducing or eliminating the criminal acts in the district.

District Police Chief DSP Batholomew Ak Umpit said an increase of 1.7 per cent involving vehicle theft and burglary happened in August with 43 cases whereas July had only 40 cases but still under a controlled situation.

“There are a lot of cases involving car, motorcycle thefts as well as break-ins but few arrests have been made. So for the time being they (cases) are still under police investigation.

“We will continue to make arrests (if necessary) from time to time. But the situation is still under control,” he told reporters after officiating the Train Ride Expedition programme by District Police with Papar Youth Delegation, here.

Also present were Law and Native Affairs Minister cum Pantai Manis Assemblyman Datuk Aidi Moktar, Agriculture and Food Industry Assistant Minister Dr Daud Yusof, Papar Fire and Rescue Department Chief Roslie Jun along with senior police officers, among others.

As a control measure, Batholomew said the police have and will be coming up with several programmes such as the Train Ride Expedition where it will not only help strengthen relationship between police and local community but also ease information channelling.

Aside from that, he also reminded the public, particularly Papar folks to download the Volunteer Smartphone Patrol (VSP) application as it would be a great advantage for both the public and police in channelling information involving criminal activities to the authorities.

“With this application, it is just like Whatsapp, the public do not have to come to the station. They can just upload or send pictures to our channel at IPK Sabah and the headquarters will forward the information to the relevant district police.

“Such method have shown a number of success including in Papar,” he added.

Meanwhile, the train ride expedition began its journey from Kinarut train station before making a pit stop at Papar train station where police handed out brochures and leaflets of criminal and counter measures before continuing its journey to the final location at Bongawan train station.

During the train ride, briefing pertaining VSP application were delivered by IPD Papar Security and Crime Prevention Department Chief Inspector Jeffrey Jaidin to youth members of the Papar Youth Delegation.
