SANDAKAN: Young people should be encouraged and supported to maximise their creativity and widen their horizons.

State Minister of Youth and Sports, Ginger Phoong, said one of the main objectives of the Government is to build talent in creativity and innovation, which will contribute to economic development.

“In today’s digital era, parents today should try to look past the traditional way of nurturing a child.

“Extra-curricular activities such as piano lesson or singing classes or even dancing classes, do your children really like those? “Have you tried exploring your children’s creative mind? Drawing lesson or handcraft can help a child’s thinking skills,” he said at the launching ceremony of Stamax Hobby Event 2019 at Hakka Hall. Also present were Sandakan MP Vivian Wong and Elopura Assemblyman Calvin Chong.

The two-day programme, which started on Saturday, were participated by 54 collectors from Sabah who showcased their rare and limited edition collection of toys, superhero figurines, hot wheels, animes and so forth. The visitors also mingled around and took photo from various cosplay figures at the event and got to know “Uncle Liang” from Kuala Lumpur who is known as a recycle modeller.

On the event, Ginger said, collecting figurines or toys is not so different from collecting stamps and the likes.

“Believe it or not, toy industries are huge. Especially those tied with movies such as Avengers, Batman and so forth. There are people running businesses just by collecting and selling toys.

“Collecting toys or figurines is not just for children. Working adults collect them, too,” he added.
