LABUAN: The Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) pioneered the National Sports Month with sport activities at its bases nationwide, ahead of any other government agencies, private bodies and non-governmental organisations (NGOs).

In Labuan, some 900 RMAF personnel kicked off the National Sports Month celebration by participating in the RMAF 10km Challenge Run which began at the Labuan base camp and along Jalan Tun Mustapha.

RMAF chief General Tan Sri Affendi Buang said its sporting events organised at all bases will be inexpensive, simple yet attractive for all personnel to join in.

“The initiative will be in accordance with the call of the Ministry of Youth and Sports to come together and practice a healthier lifestyle in conjunction with the National Sports Month.

“Various sport activities have been planned at all headquarters, squadron bases and training units under the RMAF nationwide throughout the month of October,” he told reporters here at a press conference after officiating the state-level RMAF National Sports Month celebration.

The objective of implementing the national sports month is to raise awareness among the RMAF personnel that sports is an important aspect of mental and physical well-being as well as to strengthen relationships among its personnel.

The National Sports Month will be officiated by Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad on October 12.
