Kota Kinabalu: Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Ellron Anggin said the Sandakan Sports Complex’s facilities will be upgraded in the future in response to a question raised by Elopura Assemblyman Calvin Chong Ket Kiun at the State Assembly on Tuesday.
He said there is no funds available at the moment to carry out repair works on the boxing ring and the electronic scoreboard in the complex.
However, following a preliminary visit to the complex together with Federal Ministry officials, they have taken note of the needs and they will be included in future facility upgrade proposals.
He said the recommendations will also include the construction of a roof for the swimming pool, upgrade the gymnasium and installation of floodlights on the synthetic football fields.
The Minister also said in reply to a question from Kemabong State Assemblyman Datuk Rubin Balang that the upgrading of the town field with a grand stand will be included in the 13th Malaysia Plans under the rural football field programme.
Meanwhile, he also stressed that the Ministry is committed to improve sports performance under the Sabah Youth and Sports Development Strategic Plan 2021- 2030.
He added that there is no change in their 40-gold medal target and top five finish at the Malaysia Games (Sukma) to be held in Sarawak in August and will try to defend their Para Sukma overall title in September.
