Malaysian-designed RM27m gown top attraction at China expo

The gown inspired by the 45th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Malaysia and China.
SHANGHAI: A gold champagne gown worth RMB45 million (RM27 million) has become the top attraction at the Malaysian pavilion at the second China International Import Expo (CIIE 2019) taking place here from Nov 5-10.The embroidery for the dress, studded with high quality jewels and diamonds from Africa, took 968 hours to complete.

Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (Matrade) Deputy Chief Executive Officer Sharimahton Mat Saleh said the dress was designed by renowned Malaysian fashion designer Prof. Datuk Jimmy Choo, who is also creative director of the Atelier brand.
She said the gown was inspired by the 45th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Malaysia and China.
“It reflects not just the friendship between China and Malaysia, but also the two countries’ vision of constantly working together to enhance the ties through strong economic cooperation,” she said when met by Bernama at the Malaysian pavilion on Friday.
The Atelier was established in 1986 in Kuala Lumpur before expanding to Shanghai in 2013. The brand is popular with influential people and artistes in China.

Sharimahton said CIIE is the best platform to introduce Malaysian products other than food and beverages.
“Malaysia’s food and beverage industry is already well-known by people in China, so this time around we are also featuring the creative industry.
