Kota Kinabalu: Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) Science and Natural Resources Faculty (FSSA) researchers produced face shields to be distributed to hospitals throughout Sabah.

Chief Researcher Dr Chee Fuei Pien said they created the face shield using the Flashforce 3D Printer method.

“We used Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene (ABS) material with fabrication at around 230ºC.

“All the processes including our 3D Printing are done in the Materials Science Laboratory, FSSA,” he said in a statement Monday.

Dr Chee said the face shield could be used against risks of exposure to Covid-19.

He said with the faculty can produce about 30 to 35 sets a day.

“In the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic, face shield is essential especially to health workers.

“To date, we have successfully produced over 110 sets of face shields for distribution to health personnel by the Sabah Health Department (JKNS),” he said.
